Ex Gicumbi mayor arrested over embezzlement

Mvuyekure Alexandre who was once a Mayor of Gicumbi district has been in police custody since Thursday 21 July 2016 in Byumba police station in Gicumbi district for embezzlement and forged document suspect.

He is allegedly accused of public embezzles and forged document in2010 when he was Kabaya sector executive in Gicumbi district.

Police spokesperson in Nothern region IP Innocent Gasasira told that he was arrested with his successor at Kabaya sector who is currently deputy mayor in charge of good governance.

If he found guilty he will be sentenced according to article 325 of Rwanda penal code.

The article stipulates that any employee who embezzles public or private property, funds, negotiable instruments, documents, or movable property which are entrusted to him/her, by virtue of his/her office,

Fraudulently destroys or embezzles negotiable instruments under his his/her care or which have been communicated to him/her by virtue of his/her office;  shall be  liable to a term of imprisonment of seven (7) years to ten (10) years and a fine of two (2) to five (5) times the value of the embezzled or destroyed property.
