Bugesera youth volunteers start ‘volunteerism campaign’

Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) have joined efforts with youth committees in Bugesera District and started a campaign to cement the spirit of volunteerism in the district in a bid to strengthen the concept of proactive policing.

On July 21, coordinators of RYVCP in Nyarugenge, Shyara and Ruhuha sectors held separate meetings with members of youth committees in the three sectors and discussed on how to work together to have more youth members subscribe to the youth organization as a move to realize its targets in community policing and national transformation.

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Cyprie Uwitonze, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Bugesera, who chaired all the three separate meetings, urged them to put their ideas together and be “one strong voice of change.”

“Your roles as youth volunteers and leaders of youth committees serve the same purpose of having a focused young generation in the country’s transformation process, so you should work together as one clear voice and build the spirit of volunteerism among all the youth,” he added.

The meeting was also attended by Felix Ramburuza, who is in charge of youth affairs in the district and the coordinator of RYVCP in Bugesera, Antoine Mutware.

Similar meetings will also be held in all the 15 sectors of Bugesera.
According to Mutware, partnership between the two youth groups will also help them to bring more members on board as youth volunteers in community policing.

“Every sector in the country has a target of having a membership of at least 200 youth volunteers and this is one of the channels through which we will work together to meet, make the spirit of volunteerism a norm among the young generation and bring more members on board,” Mutware said.

There are currently 957 members of RYVCP in Bugesera District out of at least 3000 a target they have set.
