Rwanda to host 10th EAC Military games, Cultural event 2016

The Ministry of Defence Rwanda has just confirmed through a statement how the country is to host the 10th East African Community Military games and cultural event 2016.

The event will officially start on August 5th 2016 but will officially kickoff on 7th, and go on up to 18th at Amahoro National Stadium. This 10th edition of the event will be held under the theme; “One people One Destiny through EAC Military games and cultural event 2016”.

The primary objective of the EAC Military games and cultural event is not competition per se, but contribution to confidence building, friendship, cooperation and nurturing body spirit among the EAC Partner States’ Defence Forces.

Also in consideration is to help individual soldiers to demonstrate their immense talents and diverse rich cultures of the EAC Partner States,” the statement from the Ministry of defence portraits.

More than 500 personnel from EAC Partner States Defence Forces are expected to participate in the edition of the EAC Military games and cultural event.

According to the statement, the selected sporting disciplines for the EAC Military games and cultural event are; Football, handball, netball, basketball and cross country. The games that will be open to the public free of charge will be held at Amahoro National Stadium, as well as at Kigali/Nyamirambo and Kicukiro Stadiums.

The EAC Military games and cultural events are held on a rotational basis since 2005, when the first edition was held in Kampala, Uganda. They are annually organized in accordance with the EAC protocol on cooperation in defence affairs.

The Protocol promotes inter alia visits and exchange of information, which include sports competitions and cultural exchange between Armed Forces of the Partner States.
