Information sharing leads to recovery of stolen motorcycle

Two men have been arrested in Nyanza District after they were found with a motorcycle which was stolen in the City of Kigali recently.

The motorcycle belonging to one Jules Bosco Mbarushimana was stolen in the night of August 2 at Kinamba in Gasabo District.

According to the Southern Region Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dismas Rutaganira identified the suspected thieves as Aimable Ndayambaje and Antoine Kagabo, who were apprehended on August 3 at about 3 pm in Rwesero cell of Busasamana Sector

“In the evening of August 2, we received information from Gasabo District about a commercial motorcycle RD 175N stolen there and likely to be in the Southern province; all District Police Units in the region were notified and we also worked with motorcycle cooperatives and this partnership helped us to locate and recover the stolen motorcycle and arrest culprits,” ACP Rutaganira said.

Police investigations indicate that Ndayambaje went missing with the motorcycle after the owner gave it to him to carry on with the late business shift.

He then took it to Nyanza where together with Kagabo were at the time trying to get a buyer.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle has since been returned to the rightful owner.

The RPC commended the existing partnership between police and residents of the region which he said that it had made policing easier and urged them to maintain the spirit of community policing.
