Kagame officiates the annual gorilla naming ceremony

President Paul Kagame presides over Kwita izina, gorilla naming ceremony held at Kinigi in Musanze district early today 2 September 2016. On the twelfth times of the touristic rituals, His Excellence reminds undisputed roles of protecting environment.

He said that gorilla naming ceremony is about remembering that development must be found on protecting environment. “When we protect our environment, we are also taking care of ourselves”.


Country’s development must reflect on complementarity of several departments to enhance Rwanda’s economy. “There is no trade off between economic growth and protecting our environment, they complement each other”. Kagame further explained.

Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is home to 304 gorillas-35% of the world’s population and 22 baby gorillas named bringing the total number of Gorillas named to 283.
