200 Police Band Officers graduate

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K Gasana yesterday presided over graduation of 200  Police Band Officers in an event held at Police Training School (PTS) Gishali, in Rwamagana District.

The graduands concluded a three-month band grade IV course that  aimed at improving their skills and their profession.

Speaking at the event which was also attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of administration and Personnel (DIGP) Juvenale Marizamunda, the Police Chief thanked the officers for exhibiting a high level of dedication and commitment throughout the intense training and urged them to always be disciplined and professional in whatever they do at all times.

“You serve under a specialised unit that performs at major and national events, therefore, you should represent the pride of Rwanda and uphold national values,” IGP Gasana said.


Police Band is composed of two sections; Jazz and Brass. The IGP reminded the Jazz section to always enhance their skills to ensure that  they can effectively perform in several high level events.

“You must remember that Police Band unit should always be characterised by courteousness and smartness in performance,” said the IGP.

IGP  Gasana also thanked the Namibian trainers for their unwavering commitment and determinations in making the course a success.

The Commandant of PTS, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said the course covered theoretical work and practical exercises and some of the subjects covered include Note values, Rest, Tied and dotted notes, Time signatures, Bar lines, Rhythm, Staff/stave, Treble clef, Bass clef notes on staff, Dance theory, Guitar theory, singing, band display among others.

He challenged granduands to ensure they acquire more skills especially in how to compose their own music, how to transcript music as well as how to arrange music for marching band and jazz band.
