EU MPs prohibited from meeting FDU’s Ingabire Victoire

Iratxe Garcia Perez, the head of European Union (EU) delegation of members of Parliament (MPs), said in a yesterday press conference that she with the delegation disallowed to visit in prison Rwanda’s opponent political party FDU Inkingi’s leader; Ingabire Victoire.

EU Parliamentarian Iratxe Garcia Perez said that since their arrival they visited women organizations, Ministry of gender and family promotion, Isange One Stop Center among other institutions. She lauded the efforts that Rwandan government deployed in protecting women’s rights and issues through the establishment of the One Stop Center.

Garcia Perez said that in connection to the EU ‘ resolution on 23 May 2013, on Rwanda: Case of Victoire Ingabire  that concerns the imprisonment of Ingabire Victoire, the delegation asked official permission to visit her but were totally disallowed.

“We have been eager to meet her in order to be aware of his life situation in prison. We earlier had information related to her, as European commission we wanted to meet her and listen her stand on human rights protection in Rwanda but we were disallowed. Authorities did not accept,” Garcia explained.

Garcia went on saying that meeting Ingabire would have helped them to get complete and balanced perceptions on human rights protection in Rwanda.
