A delegation of 23 Senior Officers from the Zambian Defence Services Command and Staff College (ZDSCSC) is in Rwanda for a one week study tour. Arrived in Kigali on 24 September 2016, the delegation led by the College’s Commandant, Brig Gen Sitali Denis Alibizwi, on 26 September 2016 paid a courtesy call on the RDF Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, at RDF Headquarters, in Kimihurura.
After meeting the CDS and being briefed on Rwanda Defence Force Organisation and Roles, Gen Sitali Dennis Alibizwi told the Media that the visit is part of the College’s programme, aimed at cementing the lessons taught to the students, adding that they chose Rwanda because of its positive post-conflict recovery.
“There is a lot to learn from this country in the way it has recovered. If you look at Rwanda of 1994 and Rwanda of today, they are totally different places. They (Rwandans) have buried their bad past to rebuild a new Rwanda. And this is very important for the Students to understand the way the country has recovered because these are some of the areas we cover in the curriculum of the Course. That’s why we are here”.
The Military Students currently undergoing strategic military studies at ZDSCSC come from Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi and Botswana. While in Rwanda, the Students will undertake an in-depth study of the history, defence and security establishments, geo-political environment, economic infrastructure, culture and heritage, social and welfare initiatives to ensure Rwanda’s security and stability.
On Sunday 25 September 2016, the visiting ZDSCSC Students visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and paid tribute to the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Some other Institutions to be visited include RDF Command and Staff College in Musanze, some RDF welfare and Production Projects; Pre-deployment training for Peace Support Operation at Rwanda Military Academy-Gako.
