First Lady calls on enforcement in village roundtable ‘Umugoroba w’ababyeyi’

Rwandan First Lady Jeannette Kagame urges women to embrace village roundtable commonly known as ‘Umugoroba w’ababyeyi’ to avoid family disputes. She remarks today during rural women day celebration, the event takes place in Nyaruguru district.

In her remark of the day, she encourages the Rwanda women to believe in themselves and self-confidence to enables self-reliance.

After praising the development of women in the country, she says that parents’ evening; a village roundtable is a crucial way to resolve family disputes and urges them to cash in on it to end up family destruction.

“You need to yield parents’ evening roundtable ‘umugoroba w’ababyeyi’ in all necessary ways to end up family destruction so that any child will be taken care in his/her family. You care your children as you begot him/her; it is necessary to let every child taken care in family”. First Lady highlights.

She added that it is a great opportunity to praise the achievement of girls’ step up in development as they (girls and women) proved their ability in arts, sciences; etc under government support.


“Taking care women and girls is durable resolution for enough provision of hope to make up a suitable family for child today and tomorrow”.

Each unrivalled parents’ evening roundtable in sector level awarded certificate of honor and an amount of three hundred thousand Rwandan Francs (Rwf 300,000).

The event simultaneously happens with the launch of the week of family mobilisation with the theme, “A suitable family for child” and Jeannette Kagame offered 45 cows in ‘Gir’inka’ programme.

It all started as a small idea in 2010. Initially, it was an evening that was set aside to bring women together to talk and support each other. What was originally meant to be a simple evening once in a while became a hit, was developed and broadened further to involve men and sometimes children.
